Every animal has a story

About Us — Told by Skipper (The Boss)

Hi there! I’m Skipper — proud peahen, shoulder rider, professional supervisor, and the boss of Caillou’s Calling.

Let me tell you about my favorite human, Marty. After surviving two rare forms of cancer, he didn’t just move on, he made it his mission to give others a second chance at life. In 2012, he founded Caillou’s Calling Animal Rescue with just four wolves and a dream.

Today, that dream has grown into a safe place for more than 80 residents — emus, deer, goats, pigs, ducks, chickens, roosters, cats, dogs, and (of course) wolves. And me. Don’t forget me.

Marty actually saved me before I even hatched! My mom left my egg behind, but Marty tucked it into an incubator, and five days later, here I was! I’ve been attached to him ever since: riding on his shoulder, going for car rides, and (allegedly) interrupting his work.

Marty runs the rescue mostly on his own, with help from a small but mighty team of volunteers. Together, they make sure every animal here is safe, fed, and loved — no matter where we came from or what we’ve been through.  Many of us arrived scared, hurt, or abandoned, but Marty gave us hope, healing, and a forever home. His kindness knows no bounds , and trust me, I see everything from my perch.

We can’t thank him enough. (Well, we could, but our mouths are usually full of snacks.) Your visits, donations, and support help us continue this incredible mission. So come visit us, meet my friends, and see the magic of Caillou’s Calling for yourself.

Meet Our Emus

We’re the emus of Caillou’s Calling, and we can’t wait to meet you! Some folks think emus are mean, but not us—we’re gentle, curious, and love making new friends. If you’re lucky, you might even catch us doing our happy dance! Fun fact: we can run up to 30 miles an hour (though we prefer a good stroll these days), and our feathers are soft as velvet. Come say hi—we promise to make you smile!  Come say hello to our resident emus!

Morty

Hi there! I’m Morty, and I couldn’t be happier to call Caillou’s Calling home. I love meeting new friends—especially the ones who give good neck scratches and warm hugs. Life’s pretty amazing when you’re surrounded by kindness (and spinach).

Rick

And I’m Rick—the handsome one, obviously. My favorite hobby? Sneaking up on Marty when he least expects it. Keeps him on his toes! We were rescued from a farm that bred emus for meat and oil, and now we get to spend our days goofing around, stretching our legs, and showing off our happy dances. Not bad for a couple of rescued emus!

Mama & Babies

Hello there, friends! I’m Mama, and these two curious little ones are my babies. We came from a local farm that needed to find us a new home, and Marty made sure we could all stay together! We love it here because there is so much to see and we get lots of spinach treats. We’re learning the ropes from Rick and Morty and enjoying every sunny day. Come visit—we’d love to show you how sweet family life can be!

I came all the way from a farm in southern Illinois to meet the lovely Skipper.

My best buddy is Pauly the turkey, and we do everything together! You might notice I don’t have the usual blue and green feathers like most peacocks. That’s because I have something called leucism, which means my feathers don’t have pigment. It makes me all white and even  more gorgeous, if I do say so myself.
